About the Foundation

The Alvarium Foundation is a family foundation based in Massachusetts, founded in 2018. Alvarium is the Latin word for “beehive,” and we chose this name because it reflects the core values of our family and our philanthropy: community, collaboration, and collective effort toward a shared purpose.

The Alvarium Foundation mission is to address the unmet needs of vulnerable individuals, families, and communities, and the environments where they live. Simply put, we believe that no one should fall through the cracks.

To achieve this mission, we partner with exceptional nonprofit organizations that deliver critical supports, education, and direct services across Massachusetts, with a special focus on regions outside of Greater Boston. Our approach is built on long-term, trusting relationships with grantees and funding programs that reach people who are most in need.
